So Hungry and So Small — Calvin’s Plea for Warmth from Casi

In the quiet corner of the forest, tiny newborn Calvin cried endlessly. His weak voice echoed through the trees, a sound of pain, hunger, and deep loneliness. Abandoned too soon, he didn’t understand why his world had suddenly become so cold. His small hands reached out for comfort, but no one came. His cries grew louder, more desperate, breaking the silence of the forest.

Nearby, Casi, an older female monkey, watched with frustration. She had her own worries and didn’t understand why this tiny baby wouldn’t stop crying. At first, she tried to ignore him, but Calvin’s trembling body and sorrowful eyes touched something deep inside her. Still, Casi’s patience was thin. She scolded him softly, showing signs of anger—but perhaps that anger was mixed with helplessness.

As Calvin continued to cry, his tiny stomach growled with hunger. He needed milk, warmth, and a heartbeat to cling to. Finally, Casi moved closer, hesitating for a moment. When she saw his tears and the way his body shook, her heart softened. She reached out, pulling him gently toward her. Calvin immediately pressed his face against her chest, seeking warmth and comfort.

In that fragile moment, the forest seemed to quiet down. The wind rustled softly through the leaves, and Calvin’s sobs slowly faded. Though Casi had been angry, her instinct to protect overcame everything. The bond of life—between a desperate newborn and a reluctant caregiver—was formed. Sometimes, even anger can turn into love when compassion finds its way through pain.
